Estos t\u00e9rminos a menudo cr\u00edpticos (dif\u00edciles de entender) pueden ser confusos para los reci\u00e9n llegados, al mismo tiempo tienden hacer que la tecnolog\u00eda parezca m\u00e1s compleja de lo que realmente es.<\/p>\n<p>A continuaci\u00f3n enumeramos algunos de los t\u00e9rminos m\u00e1s utilizados en las publicaciones y conversaciones entre profesionales de la tecnolog\u00eda de VoIP:<\/p>\n<p>Firewall: es un conjunto de programas (software) o un dispositivo (hardware)  que se utiliza para proteger los usuarios de la red LAN contra ataques inform\u00e1ticos. Los firewalls regularmente se colocan en el per\u00edmetro de la red, es decir, funcionan como \u201cpasarela\u201d por donde todos los paquetes IP que entran y salen de la red son inspeccionados antes de ser env\u00edados a su destino correspondiente. En VoIP, un gateway nos sirve para transmitir la voz humana que se origina en una red IP con destino a un tel\u00e9fono m\u00f3vil conectado a una red GSM. De la misma forma, una llamada que se origina en el PSTN a trav\u00e9s de una interfase an\u00e1loga FXO puede ser entragada a un tel\u00e9fono IP en una red LAN.
