A comienzos de la telefon\u00eda convencional, a mediados de 1960, cada llamada deb\u00eda tener un cable dedicado yendo de una punta a la otra de la comunicaci\u00f3n durante todo el tiempo que durara la misma. Entonces, si por ejemplo una persona ubicada en Argentina tuviera que realizar un llamado a otra persona en Espa\u00f1a los conmutadores de su operadora telef\u00f3nica conectar\u00edan cables a lo largo de todo el recorrido para formar un camino entre los 2 extremos de la comunicaci\u00f3n.<\/p>\n<p>En este caso si la llamada durara 10 minutos se usar\u00edan esos cables conmutados que van a lo largo de todo el recorrido entre Espa\u00f1a y Argentina a lo largo de la duraci\u00f3n de la conversaci\u00f3n. Esto hacia que las comunicaciones a larga distancia fueran muy caras.<\/p>\n<p><strong>La Conmutaci\u00f3n de Circuitos Hoy en D\u00eda:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Hoy en d\u00eda las comunicaciones telef\u00f3nicas son mucho mas eficientes por eso cuestan menos. Las voces son digitalizadas, y tu voz, puede viajar junto con muchas otras a trabes de un cable de fibra \u00f3ptica por la mayor\u00eda del trayecto (sigue habiendo un pedazo de cable dedicado, que es el que va justo hacia tu casa). Esas llamadas son transmitidas a una calidad de 64kb por segundo (kbps) en cada direcci\u00f3n, por un total de transmisi\u00f3n de 128kb (64kb de ida y 64kb de vuelta). Como existen 8Kb en un KiloByte (KB), esto se transada en una transmisi\u00f3n de 16KB por cada segundo que el circuito esta abierto, y 960KB cada minuto que esta abierto. Entonces, en una comunicaci\u00f3n de 10 minutos, el total transmitido seria de 9,600KB, lo que es pr\u00e1cticamente equivalente a 10 megas.
